Tales from Africa – Tim’s story

I went on a life changing mission trip to Africa in 2009. I’d been looking
forward to seeing Africa for over a year. I wanted to see the projects that we
support and learn about the conditions and culture.

We travelled through Kenya and Uganda and I was really surprised at the
conditions in the slums. It was difficult to see. There seems like no hope until
you walk into the church.

I really enjoyed playing games with the children. Despite the harsh conditions
and in many cases ill health, the children were happy and care free. It was
wonderful to see the joy that some simple gifts brought and the great
improvements we are able to make to their livelihoods.

I was able to feel compassion that is difficult to feel until you are confronted by
the reality. I was really impacted by meeting some children with disabilities
and realising that we could make a huge difference by contributing towards
medical attention for them. I was so inspired by some of the pastors that have
sacrificed so much because of their love for God and people.

I’ll definitely go back at the first opportunity!
